Bobappalooza
back to Greenville 2006

Over March 16-18, we attended a memorial service / long weekend event, to pay respects to our old friend, Bob Vidali, who had recently passed away.

The event was help at the Sage Hill Campground, near our old home in the Santa Barbara Mountains.

We saw lots of even older friends.

We had to buy a new tent because ours wouldn't fit in our car for the main trip south.

I was made responsible for a slide show and music presentation on Saturday night.

Friday Morning.
The tarps helped to keep off the rain

My first job was to get a fire going!

From Bob's liquor cabinet

I brought a new set of speakers and laptop for the slideshow presentation

Joe Campanelli made some tiles for each of the participants, with Bobisms written on each of them.  Each tile was glazed with a mixture that included some of Bob's ashes.

It had rained most of Friday, but Saturday was pretty sunny

Bob's ashes were sent down the river, along with tiny boats made by most of us, which included a personal farewell note

Music by George Freidenthal

Saturday's lunch/dinner was a catered BBQ

Bobisms are short observations that Bob jotted down and collected throughout most of his life, called a "turn of phrase" that Bob dug, according to another old and dear friend,  Michael Parker

Below are a only few of them:

"Cheerful indifference"
"Clutter is comfort"
"Do it Duet"
"Those were the days. No, THESE are the days"
"Often wrong, never in doubt"
"Ask questions - teachers don't like that"
"No one sleeps well in this bed of dreams"
"The heart is an unruly master"
"Intentions are yer best wishes"
"So lucky to have survived myself"
